‘I want you to panic’: 16-year-old Swedish activist issues climate warning at Davos

Our society is constantly damaging the environment. The CO2 emissions need to be halved at the very least, and we are 12 years away from not being able to undo any of these mistakes that we have made. It’s safe to say that unless we take charge and focus on solving these problems right away and focus on climate change, we are bound to see consequences. And it’s definitely not going to be pretty, that’s for sure.

It’s at a place like The World Economic Forum, in Davos, where people try to raise awareness and focus on showing just how damaging our society really is to the environment. That’s what Greta Thunberg, a 16 year old from Sweden did.  The Swedish climate activist, told world leaders:”‘I don’t want you to be hopeful, I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel every day and then I want you to act.’ In an impassioned warning to act now on climate change, Thunberg told her audience at Davos: ‘Either we choose to go on as a civilisation or we don’t’.

At the end of the day, she’s right. We have to lower the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Whether we like it or not, this is a crucial thing we have to focus on and if we do it adequately, it might be able to help us more often than not.

Ever little change matters when it comes to climate change, and if we just continue on this path without adjusting the way we live we will see consequences. As you can imagine the consequences are dire and certainly not pretty. But they are showing just how we live, how we react and interact with the situation at hand.

That being said, our society needs to find some alternate sources of fuel and focus less on meat production as these are some of the main causes behind greenhouse gas emissions. There are already companies that place a lot of hard work and money to research new alternatives to the current problems, such as Beyond Meat.

The unfortunate thing is that we need to make these changes as fast as possible. It will certainly become a huge issue and something that we have to tackle whether we like it or not. Greta Thunberg had a great speech that clearly shows how desperate climate activists are to show people the situation at hand.

We really are on the final lengths when it comes to helping our planet, and the reality is that we are not doing a lot at this time. There are things we can do and we need to be as creative as possible. The challenges we will have to deal with will reshape our lives, and not in a good way. Which is why tackling such issues as fast as possible is what we really have to focus on. It might very well worth the way we want to, but we need to make changes to our society and lifestyles as fast as possible!

We want you to act as you would in a crisis. We want you to act as if our house is on fire. Because it is.
